I’m a professional, and have worked for a Fortune 500 company for over 12 years.  I’ve  been looking for other professional opportunities in Louisiana that match my educational training and for over 5 years and I’ve only obtained job  offers for part time jobs; jobs with little to no wages; or no job calls at all.

This blog was written to display the hiring disparities in Southwestern Louisiana.  The stories and information collected were gathered from 5 others who have the same story that I have.  I believe that we were all over looked because:

1.  WE were not laid off from working in the Oilfield.

2. The majority of the group are minorities and exhibit a threat to the status quo because of their strong educational background and experience.

3. There are hiring ‘games’ played in this portion of the country that exist, such as: hiring a friend, family member, or someone you promised the job instead of the person who is the most qualified.  And because of that, when we apply for jobs, we never get an email rejection letter or a call stating that we were rejected for whatever reason. 

4. Quality companies never set their headquarters or technological centers in Louisiana, thus creating more competition due to numbers 1, 2 and 3. 

All and all, this blog was created to help someone who has been in the same conundrum as the others and I have so we can seek a way to vent, learn new skills to obtain quality employment, or seek a way to another state to obtain quality, professional employment.
